The Tholian Assembly is an Alpha Quadrant empire. It is an NPC organization and not open for player characters to apply.
The Tholian race are notorious sticklers for punctuality; it's generally considered horrible odds to bet that a Tholian will not show up exactly on time.
The Tholians take xenophobia and racial superiority to new heights beyond what the Romulan and Cardassian peoples purport. Entry and exit to Tholian space and all associated "territorial annexes" (a couched term for where the Tholians have expanded the confines of their space) are dictated strictly by the Tholians and failure to abide by these strictures results in "immediate military interaction" (to put it succinctly, they will shoot offenders down with lethal force).
Not much is known about Tholian technology, as the Tholians have made it extraordinarily clear that merely scanning their vessels is tantamount to an act of aggression.
Most famous of the exotic Tholian technologies is the Tholian Web. The Tholian Web is apparently a 'woven' matrix of tractors that is 'spun' by two or more Tholian cruisers. The Web can be sustained as a containment field, or contracted, destroying whatever is contained within. Since the deployment of a Tholian Web takes several hours to complete, it has limited effectiveness in engagements with mobile enemies, but against disabled vessels and stationary installations without mobile support it can be absolutely devastating, as it can be constructed outside the weapons range of its target.
Presumably the Tholians are masters of energy projection and containment fields, but their technology is not available for commercial use at this time.
The Tholians are the sole source of the much sought-after Tholian silk, a much prized textile with an extraordinary tensile strength. The exact source of Tholian silk, of course, has never been divulged, although rumors vary from it being a special synthetic produced in the extremely high temperature Tholian environments, to it being a product of Tholians themselves. Whichever it is, the Tholians have remained silent on the subject.
The only other noted peculiarity of the Tholian relationship with galactic commerce is that the Tholians do not consider slaves and narcotics as contraband within their space. It has been observed that Tholian industry is dependent upon a non-Tholian subclass that perform tasks the Tholians themselves would find either hazardous or merely demeaning.
The only exception to Tholians relegating other races to markedly inferior roles within their infrastructure is in the fact that the Tholians prefer to hire other species to act as diplomats. With a political agenda that does not include much to do with the outside galaxy, it generally has not been very difficult for them to hire one entrepreneur or another to say "no" for them on a regular basis.
As economic access to Tholian Space is severely limited, those that can acquire a trade permit for access to Tholian Space usually hold very lucrative business.
As should be expected with territorialistic xenophobes, the Tholians are not held in high regard by most of the known galactic community. Conversely, they don't really care what anybody else feels, as their hostility is directed at all other races and species equally.
