Re: State of the Federation Address
The past few months have been challenging for our government and our citizens. We have faced an increase in outside forces that impact our trade lanes and pose a threat to the safety and security of our border worlds. We continue to assist the citizens and government of Delta as they rebuild their capital city. We also find ourselves in a galactic cold war with the Klingon Empire over an area of mutually claimed space. The Federation Council has worked diligently to address each of the three primary issues that face our citizens.
Starfleet is on an ever alert state of readiness over numerous security threats. The Hirogen, Gorn and Kzinti, and Orion and pirate threats leads the list of immediate dangers to the security of the Federation. The government has identified the Hirogen as our primary concern and are working to develop a coalition to stand against and eradicate this threat from our trade lanes. Rebuilding the assets that Starfleet has suffered is a priority of this council and funding is being allocated to shipyards for new ship constructions.
Once again on behalf of the Federation government we offer our apology to the government of Delta for the loss of life. The resources of our government remain available to the Deltan Government and the Secretary of the Interior, Sera Lugar remains available to ensure all resources are delivered as needed. Members of the Federation Council have visited the planet since the disaster and are also available to assist with the rebuilding. The amount of fire power used to eradicate the Borg threat was excessive and Starfleet has made procedural and structural adjustments to ensure such actions are not made again.
Our government is not looking for hostile relations with the Klingon Empire. The Klingon Empire claims a sphere of ten parsecs around the planet QI'tomer. There is an area of 2.8 parsecs that fall within Federation sovereign space. The region is the area in dispute. The Federation Council will not approve of joint ownership of this space with the Klingon Empire as it is clearly within our borders. The United Federation of Planets continues to seek a diplomatic solution with the Klingon Empire regarding this area of dispute and is working with the Unified Qvarne Sector to mediate. The Federation government has issued a warning to all Federation vessels and citizens. Due to recent diplomatic difficulties, travel to and around Klingon space is highly inadvisable, especially near the Klingon world of QI'tomer. Any who will not or cannot heed this warning should inform FTC of travel plans and times. Our government nor the Klingon Empire will take offensive actions against the other. However an agreement to disagree will only breed disagreement in the future and we must remain vigilant until discussions begin once again.
A new race has been discovered called the Drogh. The Drogh are from a system where they are the sole occupants and were transported to our quadrants as a result of unknown cause. They currently are learning about the sociopolitical systems in place and are working to mine resources and build a colony ship that will be used in their journey home. The Unified Qvarne Sector has established positive contact with the Drogh and we are working with our UQS allies to establish diplomatic channels with the Drogh.
Starfleet is currently working on the redevelopment of the Starfleet Aerospace Division. This redevelopment is the initiative of Captain Jacob Anderson and Commander Luke Zitto. Both individuals have worked tirelessly to bring this redevelopment to fruition. It is my pleasure this evening to announce that I hereby bestow the Presidential Commendation Award on Captain Jacob Anderson and Commander Luke Zitto for their tireless efforts.
The United Federation of Planets continues to be a leading economic force within the galactic community. As a government we continue to provide the basic needs for all citizens within the Federation. Even with numerous external threats the state of our government should be considered as healthy and growing. Like all governments and organizations we make mistakes. As an organization of change and growth we should be able to recognize our mistakes and grow and learn from them. The Federation Council and your government continues to work for the citizens of the United Federation of Planets.
