This article is designed to teach you how to use your compin. You can use your compin for IC conversations.
These are mirrored in $compin help:
Open <name of device> Ensures the device is on.
Tap <name of device> This will toggle the device on and off.
- <message> Sends <message> to everyone on the current frequency.
Compin Info This command will give you a status screen about the device you are currently using. Encryption is shown as Broadcast/Personal.
Compin Encryption <key> This command will set the encryption string used to encrypt communication sent with '- <message>'. For people to receive your message, their encryption must match yours; To clear the encryption set it to "clear".
Compin Frequency <frq> This command sets the frequency that will be used. You must be on the same frequency to reach someone with either broadcast or personal messages.
Compin Handle <name> <name> becomes your compin identifier. People can reach you with p2p via this name in addition to your character name, alias, or partial name, and it will show up as your name when you send.
P2p <name>=<msg> This command will permit you to communicate with one person instead of all on the frequency. You will receive your message back as an acknowledgement, as he receiver sees it.
Compin p2penc <key> Sets <key> as the encryption for person-to-person.
Compin transponder <key> This command will set the security transponder key. The transponder works with other systems such as the transporters to identify you.
From time to time Starfleet Command will change frequencies and encryption keys to prevent security breaches. Keep an eye on your IC @mags to make sure you're aware when this happens.
In general if you log off with your compin on it will automatically work still when you log back in - you don't need to turn it back on.
