Official insignia of Starfleet.

Starfleet is the space-based taskforce of the United Federation of Planets. It has several roles, including (but not limited to): Exploration, Logistics, Defending and policing Federation territory.

Structure

Starfleet Command, under the direction of the President, is the absolute authority within Starfleet.

Minimum TiG

In the above tables, the Minimum TiG column represents the Minimum Time In Grade for each rank, which is the minimum time that an individual should be at a certain rank before being considered for promotion to the next highest grade. Just to clarify, if an individual has served at a rank for the TIG they are /not/ automatically entitled to a promotion. This Minimum TiG simply states the time they must serve before being considered for promotion.

If a situation merits special circumstances, brevets will be considered for all individuals in all skill fields. As a general rule though, unless emergency conditions exist, this chart will be considered law for minimum TIG. This minimum TIG allows for promotion of an individual up to the command ranks in a 16-20 month period.
