Overview

The Pryan Colony is a small colony in the Demilitarized Zone, made up of people from all parts of the Galaxy. Pryan was originally colonized by a group of refugees from other planets in the 'ZONE' suffering under Cardassian oppression. Having gained no assistance in their requests for assistance from the Federation and from other empires in protection from Cardassian Oppression, they left their homes and travelled in a small convoy seeking a safe Haven. Eventually arriving at Pryan and discovering it to be an inhabitable planet, they began to rebuild their lives. Naming their capital city 'Haven' as representing what they were seeking and had hoped they had found, they rebuilt their community slowly, carefully. Over the years word trickled out to other parts of the galaxy of this 'safe place' - free from oppression, and people of all races and cultures were drawn here seeking the same goal: freedom from oppression, wherever it may have appeared. Together the Pryan colonists built a racially and culturally integrated community that any empire would be envious of.

What is publicly known about the End of the Maquis

17 years ago, under intense pressure from the Cardassian and UFP fleets, the Maquis were slowly rooted out of each of their 'safe' homeworlds, and forced to flee. The treachery of Cmdr. Eddington forced the hands of the two governments into removing the Maquis threat once and for all. finally, after 2 years of seeing their support dwindle, the last group of refugees from a Maquis planet gathered into a SuperFreighter and set out into unclaimed space, never to be heard from again. The Maquis had been crushed, and peace once again reigned in the DMZ.

What is NOT publicly known about the "End" of the Maquis

The freighter "Volan", accompanied by smaller other ships cobbled from different worlds, happened upon an uncharted system. The one M-Class world, Pryan, became the new home for the Maquis refugees. For 15 years, they have rebuilt a life for themselves on this world, struggling as their ancestors did many years ago to rise above the petty political and racial differences of the Federation. Over the years, Pryan became known underground as the place to go to hide from political persecution, and became as racially mixed as the Federation could ever have hoped for. All people there lived together, united in a common goal: To survive, prosper, and one day return home to the DMZ and reclaim their rightful heritage.

Over the years, they have attracted many former Federation members, who brought with them stolen ships and equipment. Refugees from other worlds, even those considered 'hostile' to the UFP were welcomed, and treated as equals. Soon the colony had established a respectable defense force, a balanced social infrastructure, and a stable leadership. The leaders decided to re-emerge into the galaxy's notice, and established a company, "Valjean Industries". This company was primarily used to market the mining interests on Pryan's moon. In addition, several older outposts were bought or found, and converted to use as Trading Posts.

The now-named "Independent Colony of Pryan" considers it vital not to reveal any ties it had to the Maquis of the past, in case of any latent hostilities that may still remain from the Cardassian Union or the UFP. No one in the galaxy should suspect that the Maquis still exist, as there have been no activity attributed to them for 15 years. In addition, the Pryan Colony is seeking trade and strategic alliances with various smaller groups, and considers itself a legitimate independent colony.

For years the population of the Pryan Coalition has been slowly emigrating to other systems, most of them in Federation space. On 18 August 2404, PSO Beneficiary left the Pryan system with most of the Coalition's governmental infrastructure aboard.

With the departure, a conglomerate of Ursans, Klingons, and <<some kind of Weiss-Borg>> moved into the Pryan System and began construction of a facility in orbit.

The Flamarion, Munspelheim, and Traal Systems balkanized into small, independent Systems and closed themselves off to visitors.
