History of the Pol Kollum

Please note that the history is not canon, in fact, the entire Pol Kollum is not canon... (we did find a way to make it coexist with canon, though)

132 - First mentioning of Kryseis

This is the first recorded event on Kryseis, the record made by the monks of Kuller Island, called the Yoka. The race, calling itself the Thentry, fought several battles in what they classed the 'War of the Islands'. All thirteen islands that were on Kryseis at that time were ruled by different people. Several of the islands were interlinked through marriages of convenience.

The groups could be split roughly into three divisions, the Fyte, the Mesim and the Hyre. The Mesim were the strongest clan, their members ruling three of the islands confidently, and having allies of three other islands. The Fyte ruled one island and had friends in two other islands. Two islands supported Hyre along with the two that were ruled by the Hyre.

At this time the Fyte and Hyre were in allegiance to try to take hold of islands loyal to the Mesim. The Yoka, recounts of many battles that ensued between the groups. At several points during the war many islands changed sides, and allegiances changed. The wars continued for many years.

262 - Prince Kelestro appeared

The Yoka tells the story of a Prince from the Hyre, called Kelestro. He managed through many years of bargaining and through the use of force to form a truce between the warring factions.

313 - First Yoland emperor came into power

The Yoland were derived from the Mesim and Hyre families. Only two islands both ruled by the Fyte did not succumb to the rule of the Yoland. During their 500 year rule the Yoland created a set of laws, and helped the economy to develop into a thriving a profitable industry.

789 - Yoland government passed laws to regulate the power of families

Unsurprisingly the trading families were outraged at these laws, and started the civil wars. Many of the families paid the Fyte to aid them in the battles, and by the end of the year the government had fallen, and the Yoland empire lay in ruins.

The loss of Yoland influence set back trading may years, as a lot of money had been spent fighting the civil war. In the years that followed many minor wars broke out as the various families fought for control of islands.

813 - End of the power of the Yoland State

By the end of the 500 years the powers of the Yoland State had gradually eroded away as the major trading families took more control, demanding more from the state and giving less in return. Their monetary influence was enormous by the end of the 500 years.

900 - Lodopole was born

921 - Lodopole becomes King

On the island of Vaete after the death of his father Rolk, King Lodopole took over rule. He is famed for his building of the original Vaete castle and the victory that was won holding back the Fyte for several decades after.

932 - Castle of Vaete built

The castle was first built in a motte and bailey style during the reign of King Lodopole, in the battles against the Fyte, ruled by Chief Grewse. The raids by the Fyte had been going on for many years, and the castle was built as a place for the people of the island to shelter in when there were raids. The Fyte heard rumors of massive stores of gold in the stronghold, and so they turned their attention from raiding the villages to full strengths attacks on the castle.

935 - Assault on the Castle of Vaete

This assault allowed Chief Grewse's brother Eft to break through the defenses and take over the castle. The local population dispersed to the nearby islands in fear, and King Lodopole escaped the Thett, and remained there for several years amassing a new army from the stragglers of his original army and mercenaries from the Ruler of Thett, Hutt the Huntress who was a friend of Lodopole since their childhood.

941 - Attempt to retake the Castle of Vaete

The aging King set sail for Vaete but the winds were against him and he was forced to rest for several days in the lea of Witsh. This allowed news of his imminent attack to leak out to the enemy, which he had hoped would not happen.

On arriving at Vaete, a large army waited on the beach for him, and King Lodopole decided to split his army into two, and attack from two directions. The tactic didn't seem to work at first, but as the disorganized command of the Fyte army started to decide their tactics, confusion reigned through the Fyte army, giving just enough time for King Lodopole to put his army on land. After many days of fighting throughout the island, Lodopole took his troops and laid siege to Vaete castle. After only three days the remaining soldiers of the Fyte surrendered. After this battle the castle was upgraded and a wall built to include the nearby villages.

943 - King Lodopole dies

1175 - Islands start to cooperate

Over the last 100 years the number of wars had decreased, allowing other activities to take place other than preparation for battle. It was also the start of the period where science started to take a role in improving life, rather than weapons.

This date is significant, as it is when several of the islands joined together to make a common currency. The Benga was a common base for currency for may years to follow. It allowed an increase in trade. Set up just three years later was the first known bank, the Jeate bank, which used to stand on the site now occupied by the Strone Building.

1332 - War to conquer Dorond

Unfortunately with each island under different rulers, the enterprise of one island was derided by another. This lead to the war of 1332. It involved several of the less well off islands joining to attack Dorond, which had managed to make a fortune through the sale of its Whera, which were needed to create a purple dye, an envied possession on Kryseis.

During the war several of the smaller islands were overtaken, and many people were killed. At the insistence of the other islands, a set of guidelines were produced to try to allay the hatred generated between the poor and rich islands. One of these guidelines resulted in the production of the Island Kitty, where each island contributed, and received payments according to their island production.

1398 - Formation of guilds

This was the start of the formation of many guilds, create to campaign for their members. The first guild to be set up was the healer's guild. This guild was not only created to create a more powerful group, but also laid down a set of rules for its members, ensuring a higher standard of service. In the following years all careers created a guild, the most powerful ones were the healer's, banker's, lawyer's and Trader's guild, the Trader's guild having the most influential power.

1435 - Kullor island destroyed by volcanoes on Kryseis

This was when the Kullor island was blown away when several of its volcanoes exploded at the same time. The resulting explosion could be heard all over the planet, and the resulting ash fell for several weeks after, known as the Kallor Curse. With the destruction of the island, and the resulting death of one of the powerful families of the planet, an academy was set up on each island to encourage the flow of information. The remaining Kullor monks who had been off the island at the time, headed many of the academies, and science flourished for many years.

1501 - First Spaceship built

With the building of academies in 1435, science developed very fast, and the Thentry had their first manned satellite in this year. Soon, they began to explore their star system.

1587 - Ethuul artifacts discovered in the Kryseis system

Expeditions made by the Thentry explored the sixth planet in their system, and there they discovered very old machines, all working, and many data. The clans on Kryseis were able to translate them, and it was virtually a library of the, what is thought today, Ethuul, giving the Thentry suddenly the knowledge of warp drive, subspace communications and interstellar navigation.

1613 - First Thentry starship reaches next system

With the arrival in the next system, they explored the planets there, and they found out about the rich resources. News about this spread soon on Kryseis, opening again the gap between the clans. The clans started to build warp-capable ships of their own, wanting to gain advantages in comparison with the other clans. It took not long until the Thentry met other races, rich ones too, and trying to become/stay the richest clans, they merged with other races, marrying into rich families in the other systems. Over the time, they Thentry started to loose their identity, without noting it when just trying to make the largest profits. However, some Thentry tried to avoid this and eventually moved into a secret city in the water on Kryseis, completely isolated to these days. However, this is just rumor, not proven so far.

1674 - Asteroid changes Kryseis' orbit about the sun

On the 18 June of this year a large asteroid, very close to the size of one of the orbiting moons passed close by to the planet, and slightly altered the path Kryseis took around its sun. A ten degree warming of the planet occurred, causing the northern polar icecap to melt. Over the period of the next fifty years the sea levels rose, and many of the islands were consumed by the ocean. Leaving only the tops of some of the smaller ones sticking out and five reasonably sized islands.

The major trading families got together and decided to try building undersea cities. These were a technological marvel, and absolutely lovely. Unfortunately they were not popular places to live in, and few people moved into them. Ten years after the finishing of the first city, it was officially closed and flooded. Though it is rumored that a second one still exists, and is used for secret research. The government states these rumors are untrue, and only one city was ever built.

1838 - Foundation of the Pol Kollum

After the Thentry moved over the whole Kjiloss Sector, the families started to accept that fighting each other was completely ridiculous, there was enough room for all of them, and even greater possibilities when they cooperated. Brought many races together, all of them met in this year on the Castle of Vaete, signing up a treaty of working together in the future, and naming themselves the Pol Kollum.

Four Pillars Era starts

The Four Pillars consisted of four empires, the Vr'khaan, the Tel Cynar, the Pol Kollum and the Khonsary Sect.

The Pol Kollum, being the third powerful empire, were located in the Kjiloss Sector, an empire of trading people, loosely organized and writing its laws through traditions rather than votes from some organized political body. The Bardeans joined the Pol Kollum very willingly in the same year.

2306 - Bardeans leave the Pol Kollum

Seeing the inevitable fate of the Pol Kollum considering the Dominion threat, the Bardeans decided to stay independent for as long as possible and left the Pol Kollum shortly before the following events happened.

2306 - Surrender of the Pol Kollum

Yet, the Dominion continued its assault on the old empires of the Gamma Quadrant invading next the Kjiloss Sector to overtake the Pol Kollum. The Pol Kollum, knowing that they could not win, immediately surrendered to the Dominion so that their trading empire would not be hurt. Some members of the Pol Kollum even volunteered to join the Dominion, the first were the Ran Tugari, seeing possibilities to expand their scientific researches.

2370 - First trade agreement between the Gamma and the Alpha Quadrant

Dealing with the Ferengi, the Karemma, an important part of the Pol Kollum, agreed to deliver 100,000 quads (?) of Tulaberries.

The Ferengi first contacted the Bardeans, who weren't able to deliver this large amount of Tulaberries. Not being able to establish trade agreements with the Alpha Quadrant, the, since the leaving of the Pol Kollum already weakened Bardean Empire, began to fall apart even more.

2374 - Bardeans join the Dominion

Having no other choice to stop the downswing of their economy, the accepted the offer made by the Dominion, and joined the Pol Kollum.

2384 - Pol Kollum grows stronger

During the rebellion and the cut off of the important Karemma economic strength, the rather weak Pol Kollum grew stronger. When the rebellion was over, the Karemma had no other choice than to join the Pol Kollum.
