Contents

Getting Started

Each faction will have its own requirements for a starting character as regards character appearance, background and position, refer to the specific faction starting room or new player guide for these. Two useful in-game commands when first starting out are RULES and $HELP.

Setting up your character

Setting attributes

Some code to set the character object up correctly, to be typed literally:

  • @lock me==me (The double == is equal to setting lock, lock/enter and lock/use)
  • @set me=color
  • @set me=ansi

Setting description

A simple description can be set using the command @DESC ME=<text of description here>. To use the more advanced built-in descer code, see the @soap help page.

Character Generation

Also known as the combat system, in-game help can be found via the $HELP @COMBAT command. See also Character Generation and Combat System.

Communications

Magazines

The Magazine System contains IC and OOC information in billboard form. See $HELP @MAGSYTEM for in-game help. Subscribe to magazines via the @SUBSCRIBE <magazine number> command. Example: @SUBSCRIBE 1 to read general announcements. Some magazines to start out with:

  • 1 ATS Announcements
  • 22 Announcements - General
  • 28 Announcements - Economy
  • 70 Announcements - Spacecode
  • 73 Announcements - Combat

For more magazines use the in-game command @MAG/LIST

Each faction will have specific magazines that are only available to its members, check with your faction to see which to join.

Channels

Channels are divided into IC and OOC means of instant communication. Some suggested channels to join via the in-game command @CHAN/JOIN <CHANNEL NAME>:

  • Public
  • Combat
  • Role-play
  • Typos
  • Economy
  • Space-OOC
  • Subspace-AQ
  • Subspace-BQ
  • Subspace-DQ
  • Subspace-GQ
  • Subspace-emergency

Also be sure to join your factions OOC channel.

Communicators

Also known as compins. These are an IC way of communicating and can also be used for transporter identification. Contact your faction to get the right codes and frequencies for your compin.

Mail

Divided into @mail (OOC) and @icmail/+icmail (IC). Help for the latter are found on the PADD.

PADD

The padd (seen in Star Trek as a hand-held tablet for storing and retriving information) is used on ATS to hold common code such as storing character descriptions as well as IC purposes such as tracking bank account, guild memberships and so forth.

The factions may differ on the proper set-up of a padd, this is the basic procedure to make one:

1) @create padd

2) @set padd=!NO_COMMAND

3) @set padd=TRUST

4) @parent padd=#313

When in the game, use the $help pad command to get the Padd help information screen. You can also get a list of commands on the VPADD Commands page.

Economy

The ATS economic system is is based around buying and selling commodities, which are bought and sold at markets. See Cargo Trading and Space for Cargo Traders for an introduction to the trading system. For more complete information see Economy HOWTO
