Minority Address

<The screen fills with the seal of the United Federation of Planets Council. The image of a man appears, he is seated at a desk.>

The man smiles at the camera and begins to speak, "Good evening citizens of the United Federation of Planets. I am Jonathan Salizar, Junior Councilor on the Federation Council. While this evening in Paris we celebrate the election of Chief Councilor Castor Pirious, we at the same time welcome the beginning of a dynasty, the control of governmental power by a single family, to the Federation government."

He continues speaking, "The Federation Council effectively has polarized itself. Control of diplomatic activities of this government and Starfleet rests in the hands of Councilor Lea and Councilor Pirous, respectively, who are engaged to be married. This marriage polarizes the Federation government where one family controls the message and actions of this government. It takes a giant leap of faith to trust that politics in ones residence does not spill onto the floor of the council chambers or vice versa"

He appears to be reading a statement and he continues, "Councilor Sera Lugar and her husband Secretary of Starfleet Matthew Lugar, while not forming a dynasty, are a case of government nepotism that should not be allowed to exist within our society. High level leadership should not be related to each other. Government nepotism, at the highest level, between Chief Councilor Pirious and Councilor Lea endangers the equality of this governing council and the Federation as a whole."

"I do not expect the council to approve legislation that bans government nepotism as the members of this council are knee deep in it. I do expect the citizens of this civilization to speak out against such behavior through the election process in a few months. What I can do is vow to my constituents that ANY form of impropriety, abuse of power or suspect alliance will be reported back to you, the people that I represent."

"The people of the Federation deserve the most impartial and functional government possible. The people of the Federation deserve the best representation possible. I do congratulate Chief Councilor Pirious on his election to the position of responsibility that he now holds and hope that he will adequately represent the citizens of our civilization."

"Thank you for your attention to these matters. I believe that an educated populace can make informed and educated decisions. Individuals who wish to work to ensure the government works for the people may contact my office. We are hiring support staff at all levels. Inquires should be directed to beacon ‘swi’. Good evening to you all."
