Mike Blondel was born in Medara, the Captial city of the planet Betazed and was raised by his parents, Sarah Love Terna and Aaron Michael Blondel Jr. His father was a career diplomat in the Federation Diplomatic Service and served as the chief ambassador for the Rihannsu Stealm Shiar and later the Cardassian Union. It was while posted in the CU that he and Sarah adopted an orphaned Cardassian by the name of Rugal Terrok.
Mike and his twin brother Merodin Blondel grew up with their adopted brother in the heart of Cardassian space until their father was assassinated by a rogue Madrasad Gul.
After the murder of his father their mother moved the family back to Betazed to live with their mother and Aaron’s parents Aaron Michael Blondel Sr.: a former Starfleet Captain, Betazed elder and local governing council member – and Jennifer Blondel: A Federation Political Consultant and former Starfleet Admiral.
Shortly thereafter Mike’s mother gave birth to another son, Daniel Blondel, whom she had conceived merely 3 weeks before the tragedy which took the life of her late husband. Near the end of her pregnancy Sarah became extremely withdrawn and began to show signs of prenatal depression. Her condition rapidly digressed further after Daniel’s birth and postnatal depression caused her to completely refrain from any contact with any of her children including the newborn son. Two months later Sarah left for a walk in the forest surrounding the Janaran Falls and never returned.
Mike and his brother Merodin both enlisted in Starfleet the day of their 19th birthday.
Mike Blondel’s first assignment was onboard the USS Kiev, a Sovereign class starship, in the field of science. After spending three months in the department and earning his first level of science certifications the conclusion was reached that this career path would not keep him challenged enough to prevail in. Mike sought advice from his department head and was brought to the attention of the Executive Officer, Kyrie McNamee. It was Commander McNamee whom first directed Mike to what would become his life and passion for a lengthy portion of his career: Starfleet Medical. More specifically he entered the field of counseling and psychology.
After leaving the Kiev a short 4 months from enlistment Mike was assigned as the Counselor onboard the USS Yamato (Galaxy Class) under the command of Captain Kevin Montgomery. The Yamato assignment proved to be a strategic assignment for the young man providing him the tools and experiences to mold him into the future officer he would become. Captain Montgomery instilled in Mike, as well as all of his crew, the leadership abilities and life lessons that have become the building blocks of what Starfleet has become.
It was during this posting to the Yamato that both of his younger brothers, Rugal Terroc Blondel and Daniel Blondel; enlisted in Starfleet. The two younger siblings were posted on different assignments from the twins but had constant interaction while their ships were all stationed at Spacedock.
Four months after enlistment Mike’s adopted brother Rugal committed suicide with a Cardassian Disruptor. The details around this incident have been kept from public view for undisclosed reasons. To this day the case file reads as apparent suicide but all attempts at review of the findings have been turned down by the Judge Advocate General.
In yet another bizarre incident nearly a month after Rugal’s death; Mike’s twin brother Merodin was flying a training mission out near Deep Space Nine. A distress call from the small runabout was responded to by the USS Nightwing. Upon arrival at the scene the small vessel was nowhere to be found. There was no debris or indication of other vessels signatures suggesting the demise of the young Blondel’s craft. To this day the case file remains open and unsolved – filed away in Starfleet’s ever growing Cold Case Files.
In 2389 Mike was accepted into the rank and file of the elite Starfleet Academy as a member of the class of ’93. On the eve of his transfer back to Earth to attend his first set of classes the USS Yamato was diverted to the Federation member world of Bynaus. It was reported that massive electrical storms and strange global disasters were ripping the planet apart. On arrival the vessel completed a full ecological analysis and could find no apparent trigger or reason to the planets current de-stabilizing condition. Thousands were perishing every hour and the situation showed no signs of improving.
The ability to transport medical teams and supplies to the surface was completely hindered by the mass electrical storms surrounding the world. Potential alternatives such as shuttle transport were unfeasible as well because of torrent winds from massive hurricanes and other atmospheric anomalies that could rip the tiny vessels to shreds. With options for assistance becoming miniscule as time passed another disaster became apparent. The electrical storms on the planets surface were beginning to interfere with the main computer that supported the populations majority. (See details on the Bynar for more detailed information.)
Soon after this realization yet another revelation became apparent to the crew of the Yamato. The soon to be Cadet Blondel began to ‘feel’ something from the planet. Not the torment and pain of the inhabitants, that was hard to block as it was. The feeling came from the planet itself. As if the planet sitting before them in space were becoming ‘alive’. With every passing hour the sense of consciousness coming from the planet grew stronger. With the passing of the twelfth hour the crew of the Yamato were able to make direct contact with the ‘living’ planet through the massive mainframe and computer infrastructure of the planet. The crew was able to convince the new lifeform which was Bynaus to manipulate the conditions on a specific area of the planet so that a minimal away team was able to beam in. While on the planet Mike was able to communicate telepathically with what was now determined to be a confused and infant stage form of life. It was this lack of maturity and control in the newly born planet which was causing the global disturbances.
After hours of attempting to help Bynaus gain control of its environment or ‘body’, a momentary lapse in control created a massive electrical storm directly over the control center housing the away team. This led to direct strikes of lightning and energy being focused on the building. The surge somehow locked Mike and Bynaus into an overlapping consciousness. The two had become one, Mike and Bynaus as a single entity of a planet.
The away team was able to use medical equipment to maintain the functions of Mikes body. The problem then remained: How to separate the two.
The team worked endlessly for nearly three days on this problem. During that time Mike was able to manipulate the planet and the activities occurring on it. This immense power was extremely hard to control and even the combined thought process of the two struggled to end the devastation and death. While events slowly began to come under control it was obvious that should a way be found to transfer Mike back into his body it would revert the planet back into the state of disaster they had arrived to.
On the third day the medical staff of the Yamato was able to devise a plan in which they believed the transfer could be successfully completed. The problem of losing control after the transfer has also change. It had now become a problem of the planet to survive the transfer. Should the crew transfer Mike back into his own mind and body, the shock would result in the imminent death of the planet. This dilemma could not be ignored. It was against everything the crew believed in to sacrifice one life for another. In the end however it was Bynaus who made the decision to sacrifice itself for the young Counselor. The planets decision was based on two parts: Not only was it un-intentionally responsible for Mikes current state but it was also un-intentionally responsible for the now hundreds of thousands dead around the planet. Knowing that it would again lose control resulting in more loss of life the planet willingly gave up it’s life to save countless others. ((((To Be Continued...))))
