Klingon Civil War (2006)

From ATS Wiki

Lead by a masked warrior under the nom-de-guerre targh and his rebels, the True Warriors, the Civil war was a semi successful attempt to hinder relations between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets.

Causes

Internal

targh united many Klingons who believed that the Klingon Empire had become too reliant on the United Federation of Planets, causing Klingon culture to be diluted.

At the same time, Sak'grom Qang chose, initially, to ignore the unrest in the Empire. This caused a further split, that led to a large faction supporting the True Warrior cause.

The Qang's mate was believed dead, leading many to question his actions.

External

Several diplomatic incidents with the United Federation of Planets contributed further to the believe of many Warriors that the Klingon Empire had become little more than a Federation protectorate.

The key incident was a territory dispute regarding the space surrounding QI'tomer.

Events

QI'tomer

The initial uprisings took place on QI'tomer. Here several aliens were killed brutally and warnings were issued to the Federation to withdraw from Klingon space.

After the Federation refused to withdraw, talks between members of the High Council and the President of the Federation took place. These talks resolved few of the issues, and resulted in a physical altercation between President Samuel Bungar and batlh'Duj HI'be.

Zansellquasure

The rebels seized Zansellquasure quickly and without much bloodshed, however as it has been found that targh had been living there, it is believed that he coordinated the assault over a period of months.

In an effort to hide this weakness, the official position of the Klingon Empire was that Zansellquasure was quarantined after an outbreak of Cardassian flu. The fact that the planet had fallen to the rebels was kept to higher ranking members of the High Coucil and Navy until near the end of the war.

Beeblebrox

The rebels detonated a nuclear device on Beeblebrox destroying the stately manor of Sak'grom Qang, known as "The ONE". As part of this assault, the head of a clone of Sak'grom was planted on a pike, leading many in the Empire to believe the Qang was dead.

Rura Penthe

In an effort to secure a position in what he believed would be the new government, the warden left in charge of Rura Penthe used crew rotations to fill his roster with rebel sympathizers. This allowed the rebels to successfully take Rura Penthe without casualties, and giving targh possession of several vessels of varying classes.

In order to bolster his widely spread forces, targh issued pardons to all prisoners who would bear arms against Sak'grom Qang. This led to targh possessing an army large enough to attempt an assault on Qo'noS, though the loyalty of these forces would have been questionable.

Aftermath

Believing he was shamed, Sak'grom Qang committed ritual suicide resulting in the Empire lacking leadership against the rebels. A High Council meeting was held in an attempt to secure a new Qang, and targh as leader of two Klingon planets forced the remainder of the Council to recognize his position on the Council.

In one heated Council session, targh was unmasked as qaS, a genetically-engineered Warrior and the biological son of batlh'Duj HI'be la' and Starfleet Admiral DuraS VeSpa'. This shocked both HI'be and VeSpa' who were unaware of the child's existence, however qaS was able to present the biological evidence, as well as records of when biological samples from both parents were secured.

The result of the High Council meetings was the ascension of Assarion to the position of Qang. The ascension was seen by many as a compromise between the rebels and the loyalists, as Assarion was both distrustful of the Federation and willing to destroy the rebels should they go against him. Upon the ascension, targh pledged his loyalty to Assarion and ordered his troops to withdraw and return to their normal duties.

In an effort to return the Empire to a stable state, targh relenquished his claim to Zansellquasure, but has maintained his possession of Rura Penthe and its associated base.

Zansellquasure

Despite the orders from targh, the rebels on Zansellquasure refused to stand down. A combined force of the Qang's personal guards, the Navy and forces loyal to targh assaulted the planet's defenses. After an extended battle, the base's power systems failed and targh's team landed to secure the station. In a show of disdain and force, after securing the operations center, targh vented the remainder of the station's decks into space, killing the remaining rebels.
