Izz al Din is a security specialist officer in Starfleet, currently assigned to the USS Valley Forge as the executive officer (first officer). He is currently a LTCDR.

Description

The following is a brief description of Izz al-Dinn.

A human male, he stands a touch under six feet in length and probably weighs somewhere around two hundred and twenty pounds and change. He's wide shouldered and slim hipped - a man that appears to have led an active and athletic lifestyle. He's square jawed, his dusky skin a hint as to his Arabic heritage. His eyes are dark brown, his hair jet black and cut short, almost in a military style. There's a smile often times on his lips and he doesn't appear to need to shave or use a beard pill often - as smooth skin covers his jawline and cheeks.

He is wearing a black long-sleeved zipper jacket that covers the majority of a Starburst Gold turtleneck shirt. A compin rests just below the bottom of the jacket's light gray yoke that comes to a point at the top of the sleeves. Near the cuffs of the sleeves is a narrow band of Starburst Gold cloth. The bottom of the jacket is elasticized and hugs his waist gently. Attached to the right side of the turtleneck collar is [o]. The trim black pants cover the majority of a well-polished pair of black boots.

Personal History

Childhood

Izz was born to a law professor father (teaching at a local university) and chef mother in El-Mahalla El-Kubra, Egypt. Raised in a middle-class home he did fairly well in organized sports, finding that he enjoyed the team work and rivalries that would come from this. In particular he enjoyed running and martial arts - studying martial arts from his early teens until current day. While he was never an expert he found solace in the physical activities and mental toughness that came with it.

After graduating from secondary school he attended the University of Cairo, graduating with a degree in political science - bachelors of science - with a minor in law enforcement. His parents were surprised but not too much so when he accepted a position at the Department of Justice as a peace officer. His first year was spent reviewing case files and running a desk, by fourteen months he had managed to secure a field position and began doing the sorts of things he found he really enjoyed - finding criminals, running down crooked corporations and the like. Over his eight years at the Department of Justice he did his share of undercover and overt law enforcement work - by the five year mark he was promoted to an NCO-like rank and found himself in charge of a small four man unit doing investigations. After eight years however he yearned for something else and debated over an entrance to Starfleet - either the Marines or an actual ship position. In time he chose the latter, applied and on a blustery day in January he found himself reporting for basic level training. By Stardate 81773.024663 he had been assigned to his first vessel as a Crewman Third Class, security specialist.

Starfleet History

Upon assignment to the USS Achilles Izz reported to duty at Starbase 35. His first few weeks were met with a not-insignificant amount of training and study and in fact within his first two weeks of service in the fleet he had earned his FC1 certification. His first day was a pretty hectic one - he was assigned to monitor damage control on a vessel while it was racing to rescue a Starfleet officer that had their vessel captured by the Romulans.

On 81824.93254 he was promoted to Crewman Second Class, shortly before he had earned a TDY assignment to SFAO under Commander Eratl, a TDY that stretched from two to four weeks as he learned how to fly, navigate and fight with the complex fighters that Starfleets Aerospace Operations team used. While under SFAO he was promoted to Crewman First Class and also gained his call-sign 'Jeeves' due to Izz's remarkable attention to military courtesy and detail - his commanding officer at SFAO joked it took him a week just to get him to stop saluting, coming to attention and calling him sir anytime he turned to look at the crewman. Once his TDY was completed he was reassigned back to the Achilles.

On 81886.614449 he assisted his former SFAO teammates in waiting for the Unity to move Starbase 611 to the Delta Quadrant to orbit over Usho Prime. Once 611 arrived he was assigned to the USS Avanguard with the remainder of the Achilles crew and took duty stations in the Operations room of the Starbase in between duty shifts as a security specialist.

While at Starbase 611 Izz has encountered more than his fair share of encounters - one while on a mission to rescue a Bajoran and Klingon crew that had to eject when attacked by the Borg, the vessel he was in chased by a Borg cube and sphere until they were able to rush in and recover the escape pods and warp away. At least once or twice a week he has found himself involved in combat with the Hirogen it seems, as Starfleet continues to try to determine how best to handle this new threat. He recently took the test for petty officer and continues to try to better his flight skills as well as his personnel management abilities. He has also begun considering applying for an appointment to the Starfleet Academy, having discovered he really enjoys teaching and training.

Tue, Dec 14 2404 was a very busy day for al Din - first his fellow crewman Richard Posbury took him out for a training flight that turned into an impromptu FC2 certification test - and al Dinn passed, much to his surprise.

Then new assignments were handed out, al Din assigned to the USS Valley Forge along with several other personnel.

Then that night the Hirogen attacked - a massive hulk filled with some of the slurrie oil and nebula gasses - thinking they could ram Starbase 611. Izzz scrambled on the USS Relentless with now Lt. Commander Ito and now-Petty Officer Posbury (along with Crewman O'Callaghan) to help fight off the waves of Hirogen fighters and cruisers. He sustained head and rib injuries during the battle.

When he woke up the next day, he had been promoted to Petty Officer Third Class, and was assigned as Chief of Security for the Valley Forge, a task he's thrown himself into with clear relish.

Since then he battled the Hirogen in the Delta Quadrant for some time, participating in an undercover operation with C3 Spensor to sneak explosives aboard the Hirogen base (with CPO Braxx piloting the freighter). They managed to successfully pull out this mission, the result of which was the detonation of not only the Hirogen base but also their attached massive hulk-class vessel.

He returned to Earth with the rest of his crew, assigned to Starbase 001 for several weeks. He began dating Crewman-3 Torellian around this time, visiting her family on Betazed. The Valley Forge was again assigned back to Epsilon 611 in the Delta Quadrant when a Tridic Borg vessel began to buzz the base. They have been there since, attempting to contact and communicate with the Borg.

He recently applied for admission into the next SFA class.

Upon transiting from the Delta Quadrant Izz represented the Valley Forge as a member of the command staff when negotiating anti-pirate operations with the Klingon, Stormwatch, Cardassian, Bajoran, Ferengi, Pryan and Federation forces.

On 82120.1 he was accepted into the next class of the Starfleet Academy.

On 82186.338255 he was promoted to executive officer of the Valley Forge after the departure of LTCDR Kei Posbury.

On 82225.7 he was promoted to ensign after successfully graduating from the Starfleet Academy.

Later, he was promoted to lieutenant junior grade.

He was temporarily assigned to Starfleet Academy to oversee class 2405-2 as chief instructor.

On 82567.595417 <Sun Feb 15 14:12:26 2009> he was field promoted from Lieutenant Junior Grade to Lieutenant Commander by Matthew Nerva, Fleet Admiral and Starfleet Chief of Staff - a meritorious promotion based on his efforts and accomplishments in his short officer career.

After the death of his grandparents and some frustrations with his current role Izz requested for and was granted inactive-reserve designation. He has since left Starfleet and is pursuing a career in his first love - the Department of Justice, running a field office in Cairo.
