Itasha Pand

From ATS Wiki

The being standing here is definatley male, with a strong jaw line, broad shoulders, and short black hair. He does, however, have rather long bangs, which can often hang down into his eyes. He has rich tan skin and ridges that run down the length of his nose. He is not tall, compared with other males of his species, standing just under six foot. The whites of his eyes, and his blindingly white teeth contrast nicely with his skin tone, and the color of his eyes are cool grey. His face often features a cocky and confident grin, and his demeanor is usually relaxed and at ease.

Early Life

Itasha Pand was born on a Bajoran Colony world in the Gamma Quadrant. Discontent with the strict doctrine of the Prophets that was enforced in his daily life, Pand stowed away on a merchant freighter, and managed to talk his way to a position on the vessel. Eventually he was given control on the engine room, and spent the early part of his life keeping the rusty old freighter together.

Shortly after Pand's 21st birthday, there was an accident on board his freighter which resulted in both it's destruction and the death of the man he was seeing, Crult. Adrift, unwilling to return home, and broke, he decided to leave the Gamma Quadrant and go to Bajor to explore his people, their faith, and his relationship with all three. Being jobless, he enlisted in the Bajoran Defense Force.

Life in the Alphabetas

Pand was immediately assigned to Deep Space Nine, as an engineer. It was not long before he was promoted to Chief Engineer, and supervised the mechanical life of the station. Unfortunately, Pand had chosen a poor time to repatriate to Bajor. The Bajoran system was in turmoil, with Xenophobia approaching dangerous levels, the religious establishment making constant predictions of Armageddon, and a ineffectual and distant government unable to stop Bajor's slide into the Abyss.

During a riot on Deep Space Nine, in which non-bajoran visitors were attacked, Pand was critically injured. During his comatose state he received what he would later be told was a vision from the Prophets. The Prophets told him that Crult, his dead lover was in fact alive. He would never be the same after this encounter with the gods. After previously having an adversarial relationship with Bajor's religion and traditions, he began to incorporate Bajoran spirituality into his daily life.

Pand, however, simply could not accept life in the Alphabetas. After causing the arrest and indefinite detention of a fellow officer, Aidoann Sturmvogel, Pand decided that happiness was unattainable on Bajor's side of the Celestial Temple and resigned his commission. He boarded a transport back to the Gamma Quadrant with thoughts of Crult and the Prophets on his mind, expecting never to return.

Return to the Gamma Quadrant

Pand returned with a heavy heart to the colony where his family still lived. Rumors of his vision from the Prophets had spread like wildfire, and he was akin to a celebrity there. He lived and worked and moped about at his parents home, balking at requests to bless people's children or weddings. It was mostly a time of introspection as he digested the events that had come to pass during his time on Bajor.

Return to Bajor, Return to War

Pand eventually returned to Bajor, and fought in the Gamoran War. After many victories and losses, Pand was promoted to Colonel and placed in command of Deep Space Nine and the Bajoran Defense Force. However, Pand suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to his experiences both with the war and his encounters with the Prophets. After only two months in command, Pand chose to retire from the Bajoran Defense Force. He moved to New Risa, and plans to live out his life quietly there.
