Galactic Relative Coordinates

From ATS Wiki

Galactic Relative Coordinates, or GRC, are the very basic method of communicating the location of objects in space. Individual factions generally have their own relative coordinates or reference frame, which can be activated with the SET FRAME command.

Under GRC, the center of the milky way galaxy (in which Star Trek is set) is the origin - the point (0,0,0). The position of all objects in the galaxy, therefore, are given relative to the centre of the galaxy, in Parallax Arcseconds (Parsecs).

For example, the center of Federation space is located 30000 light years (9197.944174 PC) from the centre of the galaxy. Its coordinates under the GRC system are -9197.944174 0 0: It is 9197.944174 PC in the negative x-axis, 0 PC in the y-axis and 0 PC in the z-axis from the centre of the galaxy.
