Marco Zorzi's Random Thoughts

IC Stuff to help give you some backstory

This is likely going to be a jumble for a while. Bear with me while I ramble on about things I've picked up in no particular order.

Let's see...Officially the GFA is neutral in most, if not all, conflicts. We're on friendly relations with the Bajorans, the RSE and the Cardassians, and on...not bad relations with the Federation. Last I heard, the Klingons think we're pirates and want to shoot us on sight. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Unofficially, Alliance citizens are allowed to act independent of the Alliance government, and can once in a while be seen engaging in a melee.

OOC Stuff to help you start off

   @ACONNECT me=OPEN COMMUNICATOR;EWHO/idle;@MAGNEW
   @set me/ACONNECT=no_command prefixmatch

That's a neat little trick I learned in the Cardassian Union. It makes sure your compin is on, tells you who in the org is on and how long they've been idle, and tells you what new magposts and mail you have. Nifty, no?

Setting up your PADD

A PADD is very important, especially if you want to trade. Here's how to set one up.

1) @create padd

2) @set padd=!NO_COMMAND

3) @set padd=TRUST

4) @parent padd=#313

$help padd will show you all the commands you will need to trade.

Trading

Generally you'll want to trade if you're in the Alliance. You don't *have* to, but you're probably not going to make much latinum if you don't.

When you want to start trading, you'll want to send an ICMail to me (Zorzi) letting me know you're a Fherist Academy and you need a ship (I'm still working on an IC rationale for this, but right now this is what we have). Meanwhile, while I set you up with a ship, you need to do two things:

1.) Set your console skills (char cons list; char cons buy <skill>). You'll need
     Fighter, Helm, Enginnering, and Damage.

2.) Go to the Bank of Ferenganor and take out a loan. 500,000 bars of GPL ought to
     be enough.

Start Trading! You can use the Economy_HOWTO located in this very Wiki to help you navigate the waters of mercantilism. There is also a very good resource here under Cargo Trading that includes everything you'll need to know.

At first it probably is best to trade between the GFA planets. That way you don't need to worry about crossing borders or the bizarre regulations of some of our neighbors. But eventually, you'll want to look for high paying missions that go to far off planets. For that it might be good to consult a map which can be found here: Partial_Galactic_Map.

OOC Tidbits I've Been Amassing

Diplomacy

Different orgs have different levels of cultural acceptance. The Federation and Unity, for example, are hostile to Ferengi social mores.

Example: the Federation and the Alliance were in negotiations. The Federation wanted the
GFA to participate in the assault on the Orions. The deal the UFP proposed involved
something like: 1.) The GFA join this particular alliance. 2.) The GFA opens up two Core
worlds and a colony to the FMO Trade Guild, 3.) The UFP opens up two 'colony' worlds and
a core world to the FCA.

When the GFA suggested a different solution (1.) The UFP actually participate in the
Alliance instead of sitting idle in their base 20 minutes away, 2.) The GFA opens up the
agreed upon worlds, and the UFP opens up four worlds; two core/two colony), the UFP
thought that was selfish and unfair. When a more 'canon Ferengi' proposal was put forth
(The GFA participates in a conflict they're already engaged in and opens the agreed upon
GFA worlds in exchange for 100 million bars of latinum), the UFP went away incensed and
Unity closed off its worlds and facilities to the GFA

We used to have something of a mutual defense pact with the Romulans and Cardassians. We've pulled out of it to better maintain full neutrality, but we are still on pretty good terms with them.

The Bajorans and the GFA are developing a closer relationship. They're not exactly allies, per se (Not like the Klingons and Feddies, or the Cardassians and Romulans), but things are looking up. A Bajoran is CO of a GFA starbase, and an Alliance national is Administrator of a Bajoran colony. We also now have a joint channel and are looking into building a joint colony in the BQ

I haven't heard much from the Klingons recently. It seems to be as long as you don't start trouble and follow the rules in Klingon space, you'll be alright.

Qalen Serton's Notes

First part of these notes have been cut since Zor changed the combat char gen system
   thing.

After Chargen

After you spend all your points you are done with this chargen. Next you might want to personalize your character, perhaps some new clothes and describe yourself. Use @PADD HELP SOAP to use the autodescriber. I'd recommend a background and add it here to the wiki, but thats upto you.

Get a Job You start out with 10 bars of latinum, type CASH. You won't be getting anywhere on that, drinks alone cost about 1 a piece, so you will need more. There are several routes that you can go.

You can become an slave...er employee of one of the existing company's. Someone already has the money and the equipment to make money, and he wants a slave...er worker to earn them some more, for a tiny payment of services. This can lead to other possible outcomes like buying your own business outright rather then having to be a slave to a lender.

You can become a master....er employer. Many Ferengi look forward to help themselves to you, that is help themselves by helping you. The masters of industry are public information and such their owners are available to hit up for interning, where by they give you some money in exchange for a greater sum of money at a later time. Perhaps you could talk them into straight loaning you a ship and some money to get startered for a percentage of the profits.

You could also combine all of these ideas into something new, whatever you mind can dream, you can prepose to someone with money.
