Good evening citizens,
I am not a scientist so I will preface this document with that statement. I have spent a great deal of time with the Drogh in the past week; they are quite an interesting race. I would like to share with our citizens information about the Drogh, a new species that has been been trapped within our quadrant. Your government is currently working with the Drogh to help them return to the delta quadrant while we continue to ensure the safety of our region. There are many rumors about the Drogh circulating and I feel it important to share my experience with you.
The Drogh were transporting ninety million of their own kind from one planet to another within their home system. The trip was to be short so storage space for provisions and fuel was not a priority. During this journey they were transported from their home to a nebula within the borders of Klingon space. They have called this anomaly the dark claw. Subsequent conversations with the Drogh indicate that they searched for the anomaly but were unable to find it because it either moved, is too small, the nebula was hindering their sensor range or their sensors were not strong enough to pick up the anomaly.
The Drogh have never made contact with other sentient life before. They are used to taking what they need when they need it an utilizing the resources around them. Their discovery of sentient life in this quadrant has lead to a learning experience for them. Since their arrival they have encountered claimed borders and planets which they are not cleared to mine, hostile and friendly sentient life, learned of different government and command and control structures and in general are learning what it takes to share and respect sovereignty of others. Thanks to the GFA the Drogh have also learned the value of latinum and basic skills on how to survive within our galactic economy. The Drogh have collected bounty for pirate kills from the GFA. Antimatter is a product that the Drogh are looking to purchase from other governments with the latinum as it would be too costly to create adequate industry on the planet to create their own.
The UQS provided the Drogh with a facility to construct another mining ship which the Drogh now have in active service. The United Federation of Planets informed the Drogh of the existence of Stobi II and its unclaimed status. The Drogh have moved to the planet Stobi II and renamed it "This Planet". They have also claimed a group of asteroids as "Bunch of Rocks". The ninety million Drogh are now living on This Planet. Food is plentiful on the planet and their estimates show that the planet could support one billion Drogh through a nomadic lifestyle. The Drogh are learning of new foods through a test and die method where if a Drogh dies from eating a food the food is deemed as bad. The Drogh are impressed with a planet where they can take a bath and eat food from the water at the same time. They are currently trying to determine how to capture more food from the water as it consists of a great deal of the planets surface.
Even though only five Drogh are known to be aboard their vessel the smell is still horrible onboard. Part of the smell was hygiene and part was natural odor. Even the Drogh admit the smell was bad with ninety million crammed into the colony ship. When the Drogh made it planet side to This Planet nearly one million Drogh lined up along the shoreline and bathed at the same time.
Concern has been raised that the Drogh do not allow outside ships to land on This Planet. As it was explained to me, aside from the five Drogh who we have made contact with (Vem, Zem, Jem, Gem and Dem) the other others still are unaware of the existence of other sentient life. The Drogh have requested that they be allowed to inform their people of this existence on their own timeline, if at all. Interestingly, when the Federation offered to investigate the instillation of food replicators on their colony ship the Drogh said that it would not be advisable. When the Drogh become excited their quill like skill spikes up and their body mass also expands as well. In a tight, enclosed ship with ninety million defensive Drogh those existing near the bulkheads would be pulverized. As such it was not until the Drogh were off loaded onto This Planet were non-Drogh allowed on their colony ship.
Their colony ship, the tai'tahn Ka'dragh, is a large collection of old ships that had no use individually merged together into one very large vessel. The corridors inside are a maze of passage ways that take you through holes cut into the bulkhead of one ship into another. At times visitors walk through view screens that have been blown out, old airlocks, and other random gaps cut into their ship.
One room struck me as interesting within the colony ship, a singing room. Most rooms are filled with clutter but the singing room is a wide open space that appears to have been designed for acoustics. When speaking with the Drogh they told me that they like to sing of their accomplishments, a good harvest, a good kill, finding resources...etc. When asked if they sing for spiritual reasons I was told that they sing to give praise to each other. The Drogh do not appear to believe in a higher power and claim that the Drogh have always existed and were not created.
On a few occasions the Drogh have mentioned the existence of an animal that they miss from their home sector. They have yet to find the animal in our quadrants the same. In most cases the Drogh are longing for home when talking about this animal. This animal appears to be a private matter with the Drogh and they did not wish to speak of it with me even after I offered them the use of a holodeck to recreate the animal. I have promised them that I would not inquire about this animal further with them and I will not personally inquire about it. However, it would be interesting to know what this animal is and why it holds such a great meaning with the Drogh.
The Drogh seem to show a desire to return to their home however one of the Drogh, Gem, understands that he may not see his home world again. Drogh live to 200 Jimal. I did not have the opportunity to have him define how long a Jimal actually is. Needless to say there is concern within at least one Drogh about not being able to return home. Overall their plan remains the same to return their people to their home world. This trip would take a large number of ships to accommodate the ninety million Drogh, storage for food and cargo and defensive purposes. The Drogh seemed interested in building this fleet as quickly as possible so that they can begin their journey home. They have demonstrated a genuine interest to work with governments who they do not deem as tricky. Those governments who treat the Drogh well are of course considered cleared. It will be interested to discover if the Drogh understand the concept of friendship in the coming weeks and months.
If their intention remains to return to their home the United Federation of Planets will continue to work with the Drogh as we would hope they would assist a lost ship from our government return home if stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Federation representatives are in constant communication with the Drogh to work with them as they continue to fit into our galactic community and lend assistance when possible.
