Chief Councilor Acceptance

<<The seal of the Federation Council appears on the screen followed by the image of a man sitting behind a mahogany desk. The flags of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets sit behind the desk framing a window that looks out to the city of Paris.>>

The man smiles at the camera as he speaks, "Good day citizens of the Federation. Last evening, for personal reasons, the resignation of Chief Councilor Castor Pirious was handed to the Federation Council. In his letter of resignation he called for nominations and a vote on an interim Chief Councilor. In a short period of time enough votes had accumulated in my favor to approve me as the Interim Chief Councilor. I am honored to take on this role to better serve the citizens of the Federation. I anticipate a brief swearing in ceremony prior to officialy taking on the responsibilities of this position."

He pushes a PADD that was at the center of his desk to the right side of the desk and continues, "The interim responsibility of Chief Councilor will be held until after the current election for Federation Councilor has concluded and the results certified. Once the Councilors are sworn-in the Federation Council will convene to elect the position of Chief Councilor for a normal term of three months."

"There is a short period of time to make the current council session productive. As such I will explain my agenda prior to taking office. It is my desire to bring the council to discussion and action on the state of affairs with the Klingon Empire. The Federation government has ignored the leadership of the Klingon Empire for too long and must take steps to mend fences. As a government we have based our opinion of the Klingon Empire off of news feeds and hearsay. We must take steps to open the doors diplomatically with the empire so that we can base our relations off of first hand, factual information. The Federation Council must issue its approval for the Federation Diplomatic Service to initiate discussions with qaS Qang of the Klingon Empire."

"The second order of business is the Orion threat from Gamora and Rigel. Starfleet has been instructed to try and contain the Orion threat within Orion space and to repel any incursion into Federation space with force. The Federation is not looking for increased hostility with the Orion's however continued incursions into Federation space may warrant and increase in military action. The United Federation of Planets maintains that its space is sovereign we will protect our trade lanes, for our citizens and citizens of other worlds, to the fullest extent possible."

He glances over at the PADD and then back at the camera, "I would also like to thank the Pryan Coalition and our closest and most trusted allies, the Unified Qvarne Sector for their assistance in the recovery of the crew of the USS Valiance from the area of Krussel IX. We understand that the Federation can not be a political island. We value our allies and those nations who hold close ties with our government."

"There is much work to be done within the current council. The citizens of the Federation can expect updates regularly from this office detailing the actions of your government. I look forward to working with the current members of the council and the citizens of the Federation to make this current session of the Federation Council worthwhile."

The man smiles again at the camera and pauses about three seconds before he begins again, "Thank you and good day."
