Cargo Trading

From ATS Wiki

There are two aspects to cargo trading - trading commodities and completing missions. Missions are deliveries from one specific market on a planet to another specific market on a different planet within a limited time frame. Some of them can be very profitable (100s of thousands of bars of gold pressed latinum!). Commodity trading is more mundane - finding commodities that are selling cheaply at one market and are in demand at a higher price at another market.

Once you have a PADD to do your trading then there are some basic commands (check VPADD Commands for a complete list) that you need to know and use:

Commodity Trading
@qe com*pare <planet>=<planet>
@qe com *mod <commodity #>|<quantity> from <planet> to <planet>
@qe pro
@mar*ket tra*der buy <commodity>=<amount>
@mar*ket tra*der sell <commodity>=<amount>

Let's start with commodity trading because in some ways it's a bit simpler. Once you have a ship and are ready to make some profits you should use your padd's @qe compare command to compare the market prices at your current planet with the prices at a nearby planet. When you find a profitable commodity, then use the padd's @qe com command to put a purchase and sale in your padd's queue. Go to the market on the first planet and use the padd's @qe pro command to make the purchase. You'll see that the padd lists your next destination as the market that you found as a profitable destination for your commodities (hopefully!).

Next fly to the destination planet, find the market, and again use the padd's @qe pro command to make the profitable sale.

If, for some reason, you have a problem with the padd making the automatic buy and sell - then you can use the two manual commands listed above (@mar tra buy and @mar tra sell to accomplish the same thing as long as you are standing at the appropriate market console).

Mission Trading
@qe top
@qe top <cargo size>
@qe out <market>
@qe in <market>
@qe mis <mission #>

Missions are a bit more restricted (but potentially much much much more profitable). Check the planets near your current location to see if there are any profitable missions to planets that you would like to visit (@qe out <market>). Once you find a mission you would like to accept, add it to your padd with the @qe mis command (the "#" in the mission number IS part of the mission number and needs to be included!). Then go to the market console on the planet where the mission is originating (you might want to take a profitable cargo from your planet of origin to the planet where the mission starts). Once you are at the mission's originating market, use the handy @qe pro command on your padd. This will automatically accept the mission for you and also buy the cargo that is a required part of the mission. Fly to the destination market, and again use the @qe pro command to deliver the cargo and get paid for the mission.

Be sure to watch the size of the mission cargo - it might be larger than your cargo hold (some are 20 units and you can't take 10 now and 10 later!). Also keep an eye on the deadline for making the delivery - missions need to be included in a specific amount of time.

Many of the missions might not fill up the cargo hold of your ship (they can sometimes be for just a couple cargo items). You might want to check for additional profitable commodities to carry along with the mission cargo. See the "Commodities Trading" section above for information on commodity trading.
