Cardassian Civil War

In the year 2399, the Obsidian Order, under the command of Damas Dural, led an assassination attempt against all members of the civilian run commanding council of the Cardassian Union, the Detapa Council. With only a few members surviving, then Gul Vornan Jikall led the fight against the Obsidian Order, losing all assets to the Obsidian Order except for one station, Alar Nor.
With the situation gathering galactic attention, a summit took place upon Deep Space 9. There, with members of the Federation, Romulan Empire, Klingon Empire and others, Dural led a campaign against Jikall. Dural stated crimes against Jikall for which he himself was guilty. During the summit Dural's dedication to misconception was shown as a recently captured Central Command service vessel was identified firing upon Cardassia Prime, causing many deaths and damage to the cities below.
The summit ended and shortly afterwards the Obsidian Order captured Gul Jikall where an unknown arrangement took place between Dural and Jikall which began Vornan Jikall's career as a Legate within the Cardassian Union. This arrangement ended all official hostilities between the Order and Central Command - at least for the time, as Jikall had organized the entire agreement as a ruse in order to cover up his aspirations of ridding the Union of the untrustworthy Obsidian Order once and for all.
Damas Dural quickly became overwhelmed by the power he had acquired - he began an extensive genocidal campaign against the indiginous - non-Cardassian - populace of Orias III in order to facilitate strip mining and the search for rare religious artifacts. Dural had fallen into the grip of an unknown and insidious religious organization, after several months he was all but excluded completely from command and control operations of the Cardassian Union.
When Jikall found his moment he struck - many of the Obsidian Order in command positions were captured in the dead of night and executed but Dural managed to escape. He fled to the Federation and applied for asylum, they granted it and he was heard to have joined Starfleet at some point. He has since long been lost to time and contact and some even posture he has been killed - but in the end the Union was returned to the power of Central Command, the power of the Obsidian Order crush forever.
