CU New Player Guide

From ATS Wiki

Here is some information for people who are thinking of roleplaying Cardassians, or have just joined up with the Cardassian Union and need some help setting themselves up.

Who are the Cardassians?

The Cardassians are a race of aliens who are featured in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Cardassians who you may have seen in DS9 are Dukat, Garak, and Damar. The Cardassian empire is referred to as the Cardassian Union (CU).If you're not familiar with the Cardassians from the shows, then there is a great deal of information available in Memory Alpha's page on Cardassians and also on the ATS page on the Cardassian Union.

What kind of positions are available in the Cardassian Union?

The Cardassian Union is a very militaristic society, so a common route is to join the military (or the Madrasad as it is called on the MUSH). In the military, you will find yourself involved in much of the interactions between Cardassia and other empires, as well as participating in patrols and other military activities.

However, there is also the possibility of playing non-military roles in the Cardassian Union. Freighter pilots are always welcome, and after training are given access to Cardassia's fleet of trade vessels. Cardassian culture and society offers players the chance to play many unique civilian characters; if you have an interesting idea for a character you should ask the Cardassian admin.

One restriction on players entering the Cardassian Union is that they must be Cardassian. The Cardassian Union does not accord a high status to non-Cardassians in its borders; to be a player you will have to be a Cardassian.

How can I come up with a 100 word description of a Cardassian?

Memory Alpha has many pictures of Cardassians to help you come up with ideas. You can ask Cardassian players who are online to come down to the OOC room to give you example descriptions. Don't worry too much about getting it right the first time, you can adjust it later when you are more settled into your character.

Ok, I've joined the CU. Now what?

Welcome! People online should give you a hand, and you can ask any questions you have over Cardassia-OOC (use +c message). One thing you'll want to start thinking about at this point is what sort of player you would like to play, and contact the appropriate person. If you want to join the military, you will want to contact the Gul of the Madrasad. If you want to join the civilians, you should contact the Prime Minister. To find this sort of information out, you should get familiar with the Cardassian organization commands listed in @card/help. For example, to find out who is in which position, you should use @card/players. Don't feel rushed in choosing a job, you have plenty of time to think up an interesting character and to talk to other people for suggestions and advice over Cardassia-OOC.

Then, you'll want to send an In-Character (IC) message to that person. An IC message is a message from your character, versus your player. That is, it's a message from the Cardassian you're playing rather than the person behind the desk. The command for this is @icmail name=message title/message. Again, feel free to ask lots of questions over Cardassia-OOC.
