Bajoran Theme

From ATS Wiki

The Bajoran Free Nation was consistant for over three hundred thousand (300,000) years before the Cardassian Union *ruined* that consistancy and stability with something so pesky as the Occupation. Prior to that, the Bajorans were not warriors. They were not militants, they had only minor skirmishes. No great world wars like what we had. Life was Good, and then came the Cardassians. Politicans, housewives, farmers, artists....These people were not trained as being militants. Under the force of oppression and their sudden, peaceful, artistic lifestle being abruptly uprooted; in the light of finding their men, women and children taking from their pottery wheels and put into forced labour camps; while watching their young and old die of disease and malnourishment; their cultural treasures plundered; used as sexual delights by people who, I am sure, seemed 'icky' (After all, Cardassians are scaly and reptilian)...These things are what brought out that fighting spirit in the Bajorans and led them to create the Bajoran Resistance. Not a General stepping forward and saying 'Follow me'. But rather a father who watched his teenage daughter dragged away by horny Cardassians to become a consort, and a daughter who watched her mother die. A wife whose husband was crushed in the mines, a child lost to starvation inspired someone else. Those are the sort of people who created the Bajoran Militia. The victims of war and oppression.

In general the Bajorans are not warriors at heart. What they are, is protective over a very rich, very beautiful culture and history. Would you, even not being in the military IRL, take up a weapon to protect your child? If a man was raping your daughter, would you fight him? If the world were to suddenly change and the city you're in became a matter of stealing for food, could you do it? If the United States, or wherever you are, were an occupied country, could you get through it? Not all Bajorans did these things. Some went willingly into the arms of Cardassians. The majority, saw the beautiful people and things they needed to protect, and they fought. MANY Bajorans died. And a people who believed in gentleness, peaceful resolution, diplomacy, and beautiful artistic ccreations, created atrocities. Those men and women we see on the news who maim and mutilate and murder...We, the Bajorans, became those for a time. A complete, abrupt, tremendous change from the peaceful and beautiful people we were. That is the sort of reason we *HAVE* the days of atonement. Though these days it is rare to find people still around who were a part of the Occupation, we make amends for those of our families who came before us.

But it didn't end there. Imagine the Bajoran people are like wildcats or what have you, protecting their territory, their children, their livelihoods. They aren't like the Klingons, who seek battle simply for the sake of battle and glory in the deaths of their enemies. Bajorans *do*, ultimately, seek peace. To return to the times when they could sit down every day and paint beautiful masterpieces with their children. FGrow gardens and gardens of flowers, and build amazing works of art in the form of beautiful archetecture and seeming impossible constructs. Dance all day, just for the love of dance.

But they are not pacifists.

They fight to protect what they have. Anyone who ever tried something like the Occupation again would have a much harder time of it. The Bajorans weren't ready for the Cardassians, but now they -are- ready.

And now with that in mind, the 10 objects that are literally gifts from the gods, have been stolen, gone missing, been tucked away in boxes--no one seems to know for sure. But imagine if the spear that killed Jesus on the cross were found IRL, proving once and for all that yes, he existed, and we have concrete proof...And then someone stole it. Can you imagine how that would feel? ICly, we *know*, we have proof, that the Prophets exist, in the form of non-linear aliens who reside inside the Celestial Temple, and we know, because these aliens have admitted it, that they have sent us the Tears of the Prophets. We know that there were mortal men and women on Bajor, who over the many years, have received messages from the Prophets, and written them down. Warnings, sometimes. And that, in the words of the great and noble Odo (May His name be praised) "...Well, Bajoran Prophecies seem to have a funny way of coming true." This, however, does not mean that everyone -accepts- them, any more than it means everyone in the world IRL accepts that there is only one God and that he exists. Even some people who believe he exists want to know *why*, if he is a god, he lets bad things happen to good people, why he doesnt' save people in car accidents or disaster zones, and why did he have that Earthquake happen *anyway*. This is perfectly all right! In fact that sort of thing is needed, because those questions for which we generally do not have answers, are part of why *other* people have such strong faith. Faith is believing in the miracles and possibilities and unknown reasons, without having to have tangible proof. And that is a source of theme as well.

The Bajoran orbs, of which there are 10, are all missing. They'll not pop back into existance like lightbulbs. They are there to be found through the course of RP, in various plots. So, there are at least 10 future plots for the BFN. There are only two orbs whose destinies are scripted, due to the circumstances of their existance in the overall background setting and plot. The rest. Hell, if you have a plot idea for finding the Orb of Wisdom, /send it to me/. The idea is that it is up to the PCs to find the missing Tears of the Prophets. Do the Bajoran people even care that they're missing? How will it affect them, emotionally, spiritually. could the sudden lust for killing people who are of no threat to us be a result of the spiritual energy fading? Are Bajorans doing their morning meditations every morning? Are there Bajorans who are frantic, and lost, and whose hearts are aching? Are there Bajorans who will say goodbye to their families and set out in search of the Prophets' guidance to find the orbs? I don't decide all of that. You guys do. If I think it'll make a good story, then I'll have NPCs gather and do something. But the NPCs *will not* be the ones to find the nonscripted missing orbs. That's your job, if your character ICly chooses to bother with it. It's your character's job to determine if the things going on in the BFN are a result of the missing orbs. Have the Prophets turned their backs? Have we turned our backs on the Prophets?

For a long time the only one left was the Orb of the Emissary. Coincidently, it vanished one IC week (26 hours x 7 days) after Ithiel and Kame were ICly killed, back in January. No one was there to witness it vanishing so whether it vanished, was stolen, or what, no one knows. Only the orb's empty box, the weird painting (Which stopped changing), the cushions, etc, were still there since the VA never did assign a new Prylar to replace the one who was murdered ages ago.
