Bajoran Defense Force

The Bajoran Free Nation currently enjoys a state of neutrality (at least in theory), though neutrality doesn't mean complacency. Much like the army of Switzerland in the 20th century, the Bajoran Defense Force stands ready to defend Bajoran space as best it can from unprovoked attacks on its citizens and assets.

Although there is the occasional extremely military-minded individual, a result of the Cardassian Occupation forty years ago, most Bajorans in the Defense Force are still relatively peaceful - diplomats first, soldiers second - and resort to conflict only when required.

The Bajoran Defense Force

The Bajoran Defense Force is the modern day planetary and space based organization tasked with the defense of the Bajoran People, territories and sometimes ideals of Bajoran Populace. The largest portion of the BDF Crew maintain and conduct operations out of Deep Space Nine, however they also control assets on Bajor itself, the Military training academy on Jerrado as well as a outpost in the Gamma Quadrant BSB Nightwatch which is tasked with the Defense of the Kainon Station Space Colony. The Defense force is assisted by the Bajoran Militia, a civilian based reserve force called upon to help crew ships in times of need.

BDF Fleet

The BFN and BDF fleets uses Independent ship classes. They are distinguished by their Bajoran design features and images. Specifications remain the same as other independent empires and organizations.

Non-Bajoran Contractors

While the Bajoran Defense Force does its best to employ mostly Bajoran citizens upon DS9, there are times when outside assistance is hired. Quark's, for example, was at one time managed by a Cardassian citizen. Security and medical personnel have also been hired from outside.

Although it varies on a case-by-case basis, most outside contractors have only nominal authority aboard the station. For example, while a Bajoran doctor may be able to order someone to sickbay, an outside doctor is limited to tending to the wounded who come to sickbay itself. In general, an outside contractor's authority is somewhere between a Peldut (Cadet) and Kivas Esid (Junior Lieutenant), and is limited to their specific department. Should an outside contractor obtain full Bajoran citizenship and join the Defense Force itself, they will usually obtain the rank of Kivas Esid.

Remuneration for contractors varies, depending upon experience and job position.
