Doctor Alaren Thalasa

alaren1

Background

Alaren Thalasa is from the Kendra Province. Her paternal grandparents were physicians there before the Cardassian occupation, but because of his valiant attempt to save a fallen comrade, her grandfather was killed in the crossfire between the invaders and the Bajoran Resistance. Her grandmother was then imprisoned in a work camp and later died a day before Cardassian withdrawal took place.

Alaren's father (Tobin Edan) and her mother (Clarese Alaren)attempted to flee to the nearby mountains, but were captured before they could reach their destination. The camp of their captors was infiltrated and they along with several other prisoners were released and fled to the Kola Mountain in Bajor's Dahkur Province. The site of a stronghold in the 24th century where in 2371, several former members of the Shakaar Resistance Cell hid Alaren's parents, her father a physician, her mother a teacher/Vedek-helped as much as they could. They lived within the security of the resistance for five years then made their way cautiously back to Kendra to reclaim her grandfather's practice and damaged home. Childless for most of their marriage, the couple was thrilled to learn that they were expecting a child. Alaren was a constant shadow of her father while he worked in his practice. He taught her unofficially as much as most medical students learn within their course of study to become apt physicians.

As fate would allow her parent's were mortally wounded in a shuttle accident returning home from vacationing near the Yolja River. They lingered for a week, both too wounded to recover. Later, Alaren learned that her parents' accident was Cardassian sabotage brought about by the betrayal of a Vedek friend of her parents. Details unknown, it can only be assumed that the incident was motivated by revenge for at least one of the parties involved. She vowed to find their murderer and to avenge them.
Roger

Alaren sought the Prophets and pleaded for their intervention on her parents behalf, yet they remained silent. Believing with a child's faith that they would bring her loved ones back, Alaren sought the counsel of the Kai at that time. Her answer was,"All is as it should be." Bitter and blaming the Prophets for their lack of restoration, Alaren denounced her faith and left her home world at the age of sixteen after an attack and attempted rape by a Cardassian Jagul's son. Fighting with all her might,Alaren was fortunate to escape with only a gash to her chin and a knife wound to her left side. Finding an obscure cave to hide in while they searched for her, she lost consciousness not knowing how long she was there. Just in time she was found by her family's old friend and father's former assitant, Rogerius Benrubi, naked, fevered and delirious. He covered her with his coat and gathered her up to take her to his home. Roger as she calls him, nursed her back to health. After she was well enough to make her way she stubbornly left his brief care to wander about until finally settling on Earth for a time to officially study medicine and gain her degree as a Surgeon.

Edan
qaj
Alaren's only marriage was to the Klingon Warrior,joH qajQaw'lagh. She and he were oathed before his untimely demise from injuries sustained during a Borg attack and capture. Although she was not Klingon, she loved him with the same passion as one.

Alaren wrote this statement: "You died well, joH qajQaw lagh, majQa'! Kata shama melatas! Shata ka esamlo."

"With fire and steel did the gods forge the Klingon heart. So fiercely did it beat, so loud was the sound, that the gods cried out, 'On this day we have brought forth the strongest heart in all the heavens.

None can stand before it without trembling at its strength.' But then the Klingon heart weakened, its steady rhythm faltered and the gods said, 'Why do you weaken so? We have made you the strongest in all of creation.'

And the heart said... 'I am alone.'

And the gods knew that they had erred. So they went back to their forge and brought forth another heart.

But the second heart beat stronger than the first, and the first was jealous of its power.

Fortunately, the second heart was tempered by wisdom.

'If we join together, no force can stop us.'

And when the two hearts began to beat together, they filled the heavens with a terrible sound.

For the first time, the gods knew fear.

They tried to flee, but it was too late.

The Klingon hearts destroyed the gods who created them and turned the heavens to ashes.

To this very day, no one can oppose the beating of two Klingon hearts."

Alaren Thalasa died from an aneurysm caused by blunt trauma to her head. She had been incarcerated for refusing a direct order. Her concern was for the welfare of the children of Bajor and the fact that she knew all was not as it should be within her government. She was certain that the 'vaccinations' she was ordered to give would be detrimental to the future of Bajor and refused. Her last conscious thought before she slipped away were of those she had loved and had gone before her. Her last dying sigh was the name of her daughter, Edan, upon her lips. Some say she killed herself, some say it was accidental. If you knew her, then you know the truth. If you didn't... then you'll never know for sure. She now dwells with her loved ones in the house of the Prophets in whom she had always secretly believed. Thus ends the life of Alaren... or does it?
