Following the destruction of two Gorn vessels in the skies of New Risa at the hands of Ramon Mattlov, who had commandeered her freighter following their escape from Gorn attackers on the surface, Atiaran Dravek was whisked away to the Gamma Quadrant to avoid retribution by the Gorn Confederation. With Atiaran under the Dominion's protection, Ramon returned to the Beta Quadrant and was subsequently killed in action against the forces of the Gorn Confederation.
Officially, the People's Union of Cardassia disavowed the actions taken by Ramon, and by association Atiaran, and refused to allow her to return to Union territories lest they invite further hostilities from the Gorn Confederation. She spent months in exile, aboard the Dominion base Xak'Tor waiting for the situation to improve to the point that she would be allowed to return to her home. It was during this time that she discovered that she had conceived a child by the late Ramon Mattlov. Uncertain of her future, and that of her unborn child she petitioned the Dominion government to grant her permanent citizenship in exchange for her service to the Founders. Surprisingly, her petition was granted and she was allowed to serve among the ranks of the Vorta.
On Stardate 67706.5, Atiaran gave birth to a baby girl in the infirmary aboard Xak'Tor. She named the girl Adnama, after her paternal grandmother. During her pregnancy Atiaran had risen rapidly through the ranks of the Vorta, given command of Jem'Hadar before most thought she was ready, then proving her ability time and time again. By time little Adnama was born, she commanded the Dominion Command Carrier Indiscriminate Justice and the many support craft and Jem'Hadar attached to it. Her sudden rise drew the criticism of her Vorta counter-parts, who on a whole felt slighted that this outsider was allowed to serve the Founders at such a high position, but as she continued her service to the Founders she transformed from a shy and timid girl to a fierce and ruthless woman. She carried out the will of the Founders with brutal efficiency, proudly displaying the preserved heads of executed prisoners who dared defy the will of the Founders in her office on Xak'Tor.
Despite the ruthlessness she displayed in carrying out her duties, Atiaran proved to be a very loving and protective mother. She showered young Adnama with affection, and spent as much time as her duties permitted with her child. Often she would take Adnama on missions that she deemed were safe, such as missions of diplomacy with the People's Union of Cardassia, but on missions she deemed too dangerous she left Adnama in the care of baby sitters. Often these were subordinate Vorta whose loyalty she had gained, and on a very rare occasion Jem'Hadar but only as a last resort as the genetically engineered warriors tended to be ill equipped to handle these duties.
On Stardate 70558.4, while on a mission to break up a smuggling ring operating on the planet Vegan, Atiaran was shot and killed during an assault on the smugglers' stronghold. Prior to her death Atiaran had expressed her wish that custody of Adnama be given to Denora Jerdic, Atiaran's older sister. For reasons unknown, the Founders ordered Atiaran's wishes be disregarded and Adnama was placed in the care of the Vorta Kilana, who served both as Adnama's surrogate mother and tutor. It is unknown why the Founders chose to disregard Atiaran's wishes, though speculation on the subject has ranged from concern that the now orphaned child would be ostracized in Cardassian society to the desire to raise Adnama to emulate her mother. Most opinions veer towards the latter explanation.
Much Adnama's life following her mother's death was spent on the planet Karemma, where Kilana tutored her on a variety of subjects ranging from languages, history, mathematics, literature, diplomacy, economics and advanced combat tactics, with supplemental courses in personal defense provided by the Honored Elder Duh'nath, who served as First under her mother. She proved to be a very obedient child up to her teenage years when she began to display some rebelliousness. Kilana attempted to control this rebellious streak in many different ways, but only found success by giving in and allowing young Adnama a measure of freedom.
Adnama was allowed to form a small courier service, and provided a small vessel in which to transport the cargo she was contracted to deliver. She named the company RadiKS Courier Services after a fictional company she had read about in a piece of Earth literature, and took on the moniker of YT, the main female protagonist of the book. For the first time since her birth she was allowed to leave the confines of Dominion space without supervision in order to pursue this vocation. Unbeknownst to her, all deliveries she was contracted to make were taken by various entities affiliated in some way with the Dominion.
On Stardate 79747.9, after she had completed a delivery to the Alpha Quadrant and was returning to her home on Karemma she encountered a Jem'Hadar patrol just inside of Dominion space under the command of Vorta Delos. After a brief exchange over secured subspace, Delos's ship opened fire and destroyed Adnama's vessel, killing her in the process. His report stated that Adnama's vessel, the SS RadiKS, had disabled it's transponder and refused to identify itself. A subsequent investigation revealed these claims to be false and the Delos line of Vorta was deemed to be defective and later eradicated. Adnama was cloned, with genetic material and memories provided by extensive examinations she was regularly subjected to throughout her brief career as a courier.
Adnama's own death was concealed from her, with Kilana fearing what unknown psychological trauma this knowledge would bring, and soon after the incident Adnama lost interest in her business venture for unknown but likely unrelated reasons and resumed her studies. This resumption of her studies coincided with a new interest in the career of her mother Atiaran. She began studying her service record, old battles and any other information she could find on the woman she could barely remember.
In addition to her normal studies, she began field training with Kilana in command of a small force of Jem'Hadar. During this field training she participated in several missions within Dominion space, including an interdiction mission against suspected smugglers attempting to ferry arms to rebels on Telanus IV in which she was allowed to command the operation. She was not, however, permitted to participate in the operation that followed to punish the population of the planet for their defiance of the Founders.
After a year of field training, she was given command of a Dominion Attack Ship along with a small group of Jem'Hadar. Though by this point in her budding career she was already quite competent in command her duties were still restricted to the confines of Dominion space. Despite this limitation she distinguished herself in several small operations, and more than proved her loyalty to the Founders. It is for this reason she was surprised that upon returning to Xak'Tor from a patrol to find Kilana awaiting her. The Vorta who had been her commander, tutor and surrogate mother informed her that the Founders wished her to return to her people, and learn from them what she could.
This news did not sit well with Adnama, and she felt as though the Founders were abandoning her. For the first time in as long as she could remember she wept, and in an unusual display of affection Kilana held her close. In the morning she boarded a transport destined for the Alpha Quadrant.
