Aidoann uneasily looks at each as they enter the conference room. It's clear she doesn't want to be here. But she is.
Salizar slips into a chair and the display in front of him comes to life.
Salizar steps down as chairperson.
A pair of Bajoran men pass you.
The hum of mechanics pulse through the magfield piping in the walls.
Ian Sturmvogel slips into a chair and the display in front of him comes to life.
Ian Sturmvogel assumes the duties of chairperson.
Ian Sturmvogel clears his throat as people finish entering. "I thank you all for coming tonight to this press conference... People of the Bajoran Free Nation... and of the galaxy:"
Malia S'arth walks in with two security guards. More can be seen outside.
Aidoann waits until everyone seems to have found their positions before edging her way closer to where Ian is.
A cross-looking Human strolls through on her way through the corridor.
Ian Sturmvogel says, "Within the past few months, we have seen a marked increase in attacks on shipping and commerce. As Trade Minister for the Bajoran Free Nation, I have tried to seek ways to combat this latest menace to our welfare and daily lives, but to little or no avail. I have sought alternatives within the Ministry and the Forum, but instead we have a new policy within the Free Nation - Neutrality."
Sharia stands against the back wall, watching silently.
S'al arrives from the ]O[ Upper Promenade East door, which then quietly closes behind him.
S'al has arrived.
S'al slips into a chair and the display in front of him comes to life.
Dalmont raises an eyebrow, "That's new?"
Ian Sturmvogel says, "Neutrality is a beautiful concept... in a perfect situation. I used to favor neutrality myself, as I saw it as a way to bring disparate nations together. I saw it as a catalyst for spreading peace and tranquility outside of Bajoran borders, and a way to bring the major powers of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants together to discuss issues and bring them to a peaceful resolution."
S'al sneaks in and takes a seat.
Ian Sturmvogel says, "However, what is not needed now are policies and diplomatic stances that tie our hands, and do nothing to let us act to support defending our shipments, our deliveries - indeed our people. And when we do encounter situations of danger? What do we do? We abandon our supply routes, allowing the attackers to fly unmolested."
Salizar pushes his seat further down the table from S'al
Ian Sturmvogel says, "The attackers I am speaking of are none other than the Hirogen. These terrorists... these monsters, they attack and destroy at will, whether it be ships, starbases, even colonies. It is all the same, our people are the ones in danger. At some point, this violence against our people and the people of the galaxy must stop."
Zakar removes his PADD from its holster and begins to take notes.
Saeihr folds her arms across her chest and smirks.
chu'De' activates her camera.
Ian Sturmvogel says, "Many years ago, I had left Starfleet and my life within the Federation for a reason - to fight for those people who could not fight for themselves - the oppressed, the enslaved, those who no one else stood up for. And now I see the same thing happening all over again... I am sorry, it's not something I can stand for."
Ian Sturmvogel clears his throat. "When all of our collective peoples climbed up and out of the primordial ooze, we were driven by a quest to better and improve ourselves, seek out the unknown, and continue our inexorable reach outward into the stars. There are times, however, when the risk outweighs the need, but our peoples have overcome these obstacles, they have triumphed over adversity, and together, dammit, we can do the same thing again."
chu'De' walks around the room to get a better camera angle.
Ian Sturmvogel leans forward from his podium. "These Hirogen are a fragmented people who survive on nothing else but attacking people who are weaker and less able to fight back than they are. And what do we do? We do things like pull back... declare neutrality. Go off on neverending patrols. To this, I say - ENOUGH."
Aidoann lets out a faint sigh as she listens to Ian.
Ian Sturmvogel exhales once before continuing on. "I tell you what we should be doing - if there is a trade route, we should protect it. If there is a colony or starbase, we should be their guardians. Wherever there are Hirogen en masse, we should attack and destroy them. If there is a single Reaver attacking a single Freighter-I, we should hunt down that Reaver, board the vessel, and kill ANY Hirogen on that vessel. And to any Hirogen who is listening right now to my words and taking a bit of offense, I have this message for you - we will fight you on land, on the seas, in the air, amongst the stars, we will hunt YOU down, and we will DESTROY you."
chu'De' zooms in at the right moment to catch Ian in a dramatic pose.
Salizar raises his hand.
T'Lia elevates an eyebrow and gives a glance to Salizar.
Blues glances sideways at Saeihr.
chu'De' says, "This is an interesting meeting." to nobody in particular.
Ian Sturmvogel looks up and holds out his hand, signalling a pause to Salizar. "And for anyone else listening right now... whether it be a solitary crewer aboard a vessel of war thinking that their government is not doing enough, or the freighter pilot who has had to cut back their runs but can't afford to put food on the table for his or her family, or someone who directly lives under the fear of the Hirogen - I tell you this now: We will not go quietly. We will no longer have our backs bowed, our heads hung low in fear of reprisals or attacks. We shall stand strong and united against these attacks, we will fight and be victorious, and never again shall we live in fear for ourselves and for our families."
Salizar puts his hand back down.
Ian Sturmvogel sighs once, shaking his head.... "To this end, I have come to several decisions relating to my current life. The first, is that, effective immediately, I shall be resigning my post of Minister of Finance for the Bajoran Free Nation. I can no longer sit at my desk and merely be outraged by the these constant attacks."
Salizar pulls out a PADD and begins to type.
S'al listens and leans forward
Malia S'arth says, "Your resignation is noted."
Ian Sturmvogel says, "The second decision I make, and I do this with a heavy heart, is to renounce my Bajoran citizenship. The Bajorans are a proud, noble people whom I have come to respect and trust over the years, and they have welcomed me with open arms. I also respect the current government's stance on neutrality, as much as I disagree with it. But in this case, I realize there is little I can do as a Minister or as a Bajoran Citizen with such regulations in place, specifically the articles of neutrality that forbid a Bajoran citizen to take actions against such dastardly acts."
Ian Sturmvogel says, "The third and final decision I have made is to leave the comforts of my current surroundings and make my way to Delta Quadrant. Once there, I shall take whatever monies I have from my trading days to begin a new organization, a group of individuals who believe as I do, that these attacks by the Hirogen must be stopped. These individuals will be ready to serve and fight alongside the governments already stationed there, and will be in the vanguard of any strikes or attacks on Hirogen assets. We shall fight as one, whether it be in fightercraft, in boarding operations, or wherever the Hirogen may be."
Malia S'arth makes a motion with his hands and the two guards take flanking positions on eaither side of Ian.
Ian Sturmvogel watches the guards move closer to him as he speaks... and he speaks quicker... "As for our organization's name... I shall take our name from the noble, courageous, and ferocious Hara Cat that is native of Bajor. These creatures are unique, in that not only do they fight as a pack, but also will protect even the least strong of their number during any attacks on the pack. I call on any able-bodied, trained, and motiviated individuals who reside now in neutral governments to join me... and join our Fighting Hara Cats. Together, we will finally stop these Hirogen once-and-for-all, and assure that our peoples can live and work in safety once more. I thank you."
Malia S'arth says simply, "Get off my station."
Malia S'arth turns and heads out.
"Wait! One minute. Please." Aidoann says abruptly, her usual harsh tone replaced by a pleading one. Having moved to be close to Ian, she swiftly reaches out in an attempt to snag his arm, to make him stay for just a moment; stave off the guards for a few desperate seconds.
The two guards step forward, hands on their phasers, but not drawing them. Yet.
Ian Sturmvogel looks up with an angry smirk at Malia... but then is tempered by Aidoann's movement forward. His eye looks at her... shaking his head... "No..." He says softly. Looking up, he smiles defiantely. "Any questions?"
T'Lia begins to stand assuming the Bajoran who who means everyone.
Blues looks at T'Lia, wondering if she is about to say something.
Zakar looks up to T'Lia and shakes his head.
Barlow blurts out, "Mr. Sturmvogel, how many followers to your cause do you have?"
The two security officers draw their sidearms in unison. "Ten seconds." one of them says.
Ian Sturmvogel smiles. "We'll always be looking for more motivated people, Barlow. You'll know us by the number of Hirogen we smash."
Ian Sturmvogel motions the guards away. "Damn you, I haven;'t given up the floor yet."
Saeihr raises a hand,"Where will you go now, that you have no government to back you? I understand that flying out into space to fight the Hirogen is, rather romantic to some species. But I find it rather foolish to do so without a plan. Where do you plan to go exactally?"
Dalmont grins, "I think they want it, Ian."
T'Lia blushes a tinge of jade and resettles herself into the seat.
Aidoann isn't going to take no for an answer as she steps forward and grabs Ian's arm, leaning in swiftly to whisper to him. Her free hand reaches up and removes her necklace, slipping it around Ian's neck instead. "Goodbye." she says, turning abruptly to leave.
Ian Sturmvogel grabs the podium with both hands, speaking over the din. "I shall be movbing on now, but will make anotehr announcement once I have made it to my destination. Everyone who has ever wanted to make a difference.... join us!"
You gave Vulcan IDIC Necklace (17785) (equipped: head) to Ian Sturmvogel.
You return your Vulcan IDIC Necklace (17785) (equipped: head) to your inventory.
Salizar leans back and folds his arms, he grins.
Ian Sturmvogel looks at Aidoann momentarily, and shakes his head for a moment, but then looks up. "My time is almost up here. Neutrality is not the answer! We must stand up for what we believe in!"
S'al taps something in his padd and looks forward at his display.
One of the guards lsitens to his communicator, nods once and walks over to Salizar. "You are to leave as well. Now."
Zakar frowns grimly and watches Ian with an intense gaze.
Ian Sturmvogel points to the guard. "Mr. Salizar has nothing to do with me. He is a guest of DS9."
Barlow pulls out a camera, taking random pictures of the scene.
Salizar quirks a brow, "Me? I had nothing to do with this. I'm just enjoying the entertainment."
S'al smirks, "Salizar is just looking to inflame the sitaution, he should leave as well."
S'al looks to Salizar and leans back on his chair.
T'Lia speaks up. "He has said nothing at all."
Aidoann pauses halfway to the door and looks back. "Ian, just shut up and go for once. Just /go/." And, then, she's gone.
Sharia leaves through the ]O[ Upper Promenade East door.
Sharia has left.
Salizar turns to S'al and shrugs, "You are such a twit sometimes." He stands from his chair and winks at T'Lia.
S'al thinks aloud, "Whom here you think is bankrolling this adventure against the neutrality of the BFN, certiantly Phoenix City"
